Known as the ‘original’ grassroot diplomat, TALYN RAHMAN-FIGUEROA is the founding Chief Executive Officer of Grassroot Diplomat, a non-profit diplomatic consultancy making diplomacy inclusive for everyone. With over 10 years’ working in international relations focusing on international government communications, Talyn has assisted various public sector bodies and foreign governments, delivering high-level projects from public health to climate change.
Talyn has a natural affinity for visual communications and continues to advice on strategic communications as part of her duties at Grassroot Diplomat. A trained diplomat, she is the director and producer of several podcast shows including Grassroot Diplomat Talks and Diplomacy Engage, the lead consultant for all digital diplomacy and public diplomacy projects, and the author of "Women in Diplomacy". Talyn recently published the “Diplomatic Planner” - a highly visual 12-month career development toolkit for international relations to help practitioners overcome ethical dilemmas and conflicts of interests in this red-tape field. Her new book “Brexit Handbook: Management of Civil Society Crisis for Global Diplomats” will be out in 2019.
An accomplished public sector consultant, Talyn answers directly to senior management and Board of Directors, building relationships with senior government officials looking to challenge negative stereotypes and national misconceptions. Talyn has a proven track record of operating at senior level to effect powerful change through close networking, strategic transformational change and public communications initiatives.
Talyn also coaches clients on creating a personal brand for international relations, finding the right balance between managing personal ethics and conflicting national interests. She is the lead coach at the Grassroot Diplomat Online Academy, where she offers tutorials, case studies, podcasts, practical exercises, and PDF downloads for practitioners to create the best version of themselves in a complex and highly bureaucratic environment.
Born and raised in London, Talyn has a truly international background, having lived in Japan, Morocco, parts of Europe, and North America. She is a polyglot and has engaged in various speaking engagements around the world.
Outside of Grassroot Diplomat, Talyn engages with clients who fall outside of her organisational remit. This includes working with politicians and state governments in improving their public brand for various campaigns. Take advantage of this unique opportunity by hiring a true visionary who is authentic, energetic and makes it her mission to bridge the gap between governments and civil society.
“Talyn is not afraid to think differently. As a consequence, she gets things done that others can’t.”
Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable MP
